MTS, also known as M2TS, is short for MPEG-2 Transport Stream (M2TS), and similar to MKV and AVI. MTS is also a container format applied to multiplex audio, video and other streams. MTS is based on the MPEG-2 transport stream container which is commonly used for HD video on Blu-ray Disc and AVCHD.
Only a limited number of players can open MTS, some of which should have the corresponding codec or plug-ins. Windows 7 can support MTS playback, while Windows XP and Windows Vista don't have the service.
